Phoenix residents faced an unprecedented heatwave on August 7, 2025, as temperatures soared to a blistering 118°F, marking the hottest August day in the city's history.
This scorching milestone was recorded at approximately 3:40 p.m. at Sky Harbor International Airport.
The previous daily record of 112°F, set in 2012 and 1905, was surpassed by a significant margin. Additionally, the morning low temperature only dipped to 94°F around 5 a.m., breaking the prior record warm overnight low of 91°F established in 2023.
This extreme heat contributes to what is shaping up to be one of Phoenix's hottest summers on record.
As of early August, the city has experienced 21 days with temperatures reaching 110°F or higher, underscoring the relentless nature of this summer's heat.
Residents are urged to take necessary precautions during these extreme temperatures.
Staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and utilizing available cooling centers are essential measures to prevent heat-related illnesses. The city has activated several cooling stations to assist those in need during this heatwave.
Looking ahead, meteorologists anticipate that the intense heat will persist, with temperatures remaining above normal for this time of year.
While there is a slight chance for isolated showers in the coming days, significant relief from the heat is not expected in the immediate future.
As Phoenix continues to grapple with these record-breaking temperatures, the community's resilience and adherence to safety guidelines remain paramount in navigating this sweltering summer. |
