Massive Dust Storm Engulfs Phoenix, Disrupting Daily Life

A towering dust storm, known as a haboob, swept through the Phoenix metropolitan area on Monday, plunging the city into near darkness and causing widespread disruptions.

Residents experienced dramatic reductions in visibility, with some drivers forced to pull over as the storm enveloped their vehicles.

One motorist recounted, "I couldn't see my hand in front of my face if I put my hand outside."

The haboob, driven by strong winds, led to significant power outages, affecting over 15,000 customers in Maricopa County.

Additionally, flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport were delayed, and some operations were temporarily halted due to the severe weather conditions.

According to meteorologists, while Phoenix has experienced a drier-than-usual monsoon season, such intense dust storms are not uncommon during this period.
